Meet the Team – Anna Hamer
The recently launched People and Culture team are the backbone of The HEX Group, assuring all colleagues' wellness, happiness, and motivation. Formerly Human Resources, The People and Culture door is always open.
Heading the team is Group People and Culture Manager, Karen Barnacle, who unquestionably knows the business inside and out, celebrating 30 years of service next year. Karen's career path in Human Resources has progressed from Administrator to Officer and now to Manager.
Karen's role is hugely varied, responsible for all practices, processes, and strategies within her department.
Karen says, "Our business has an extremely clear Roadmap of how the People and Culture department will grow and develop. I am working on various exciting new projects, particularly on people initiatives."
Karen enjoys walking and socialising with friends and family during her spare time.
Karen's team consists of Jordanna Renshaw, Group People & Culture Officer, Lucy Bagnall, Group People & Culture Administrator, and most recent recruit Scott Edwards, Group People & Culture Administrator.
Jordanna Renshaw joined the group in 2016, initially on a short-term maternity cover contract and as they say, the rest is history. Jordanna quickly demonstrated her ability and passion for the job, swiftly gaining a CIPD Level 5 and a promotion from Administrator to Group Officer.
As Group People & Culture Officer, Jordanna is responsible for the day-to-day People & Culture activities as well as overseeing reception.
Jordanna plays a significant role in The HEX Group Apprenticeship Scheme, supporting apprentices through their qualifications. Jordanna attends the annual apprentice trip to Elan Valley. She comments "Elan Valley always proves to be extremely successful and great fun, providing a fantastic opportunity for team building and individual development. Spending nearly a week together helps the apprentices form a strong friendship which benefits them when they return to the working environment."
In her spare time, Jordanna enjoys walking her dog, reading and attending concerts.
Lucy Bagnall joined the People & Culture team in March 2022, having previously worked within HR for a number of years. Prior to working in HR, Lucy spent a number of years working as cabin crew followed by a period of time with the probation service.
Lucy is responsible for the day-to-day administration tasks for Alpha and Atlas. Lucy supports the team with numerous responsibilities, including managing temporary workers, time & attendance monitoring, FLT training, and ensuring all employees have correct workwear.
As the main point of contact for Alpha and Atlas, Lucy is responsible for the onboarding of new employees and ensures she meets every new employee to welcome them. Lucy comments, "New starters must receive a positive inclusion into the business. A successful onboarding process will ensure a smooth start into their new role and responsibilities."
In her spare time, Lucy is kept busy with her two young sons but also enjoys gardening and cooking for friends and family.
The newest member of the People & Culture team is Scott Edwards. Scott has recently completed a Business Management Degree at Liverpool University focusing on HR. Scott is an excellent addition to the team bringing fresh perspectives and ideas.
Scott is responsible for the day-to-day administration tasks for Bri-Stor and is the main point of contact for Bri-Stor employees. Alongside his day-to-day tasks, Scott is also responsible for the weekly payroll on all 3 companies. Scott is also looking at improving the onboarding process for the group to streamline the recruitment process.
Outside of work Scott has two Labrador puppies, enjoys playing tennis at his local club and is a big fan of Formula One.
