Mental Health: A Culture Shift
The HEX Group understands the importance of mental health and the requirement to raise its awareness within the workplace. With MIND North Staffs as their chosen charity for the next two years, they are incredibly proud to announce the introduction of two wellbeing rooms supported by fully-trained Mental Health First Aiders.
Mental Health Charity, MIND recognises that at least one in six workers experience mental health problems, and with over 450 employees, identifying the need to raise awareness of just a topical subject was essential.
It concretes the commitment from The HEX Group to developing an approach to mental health at work that protects and improves mental health for everyone.
The two wellbeing rooms, located within company divisions, Bri-Stor Systems and Alpha Manufacturing, will provide employees with a safe, confidential space where they can take time to tend to their personal health needs.
To support this, The HEX Group have trained over 40 employees who volunteered to become Mental Health First Aiders. In-house training was conducted by Will Davies-Hill, already a Mental Health First Aider at The HEX Group, who completed a qualification to allow him to train Mental Health First Aiders in the workplace.
Alex Voss, Group Digital Marketing Executive volunteered for the training and has this to say, “It’s a great initiative from The HEX Group to train nearly 1 in 10 employees to become Mental Health First Aiders. I’m so happy to have been a part of it and passed. Mental Health First Aiders can be the friendly faces that can help someone in need access the support that makes a difference. We’re here to help; we can listen and provide support without judgement. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone – get in touch with me or one of the other Mental Health First Aiders to access some amazing support.”
Group People and Culture Officer, Jordanna Renshaw, played a pivotal role in this process and comments, "I am delighted to have been involved in both the addition of Mental Health First Aiders and the wellbeing rooms to the business. We are lucky to have the ability to train our Mental Health First Aiders in-house and have the business's support, enabling us to create safe spaces for them to utilise. Mental Health is an essential part of people's well-being, and we must support our people and correctly signpost them to the help they need. I look forward to continuing to work within the People & Culture team as we focus on the health and wellbeing of our people."
The HEX Group is committed to its people. It hopes this investment shows dedication to the workforce and improves team morale, productivity, job satisfaction and well-being.
